Windows Phone Accessory Review: Arkon Handlebar Mount and Holder

Arkon Handlebar Mount and Holder

If you're wanting to be more than mobile with your Windows Phone and biking (pedal or motor driven type) is cup of tea, look at Arkon'southward Handlebar Mount with H2o Resistant Holder. It's not a bad way to bring your Windows Phone along for the ride.

The Arkon's advantage over carrying your Windows Phone in a belt case is that it allows you to view your phone while on the become (e.g. to view maps, music player, etc.) without taking a paw off the handle bars.

Arkon Handlebar Holder

The Arkon Handlebar Mount is a two piece design. First you accept the handlebar mountain that fits handles up to 33mm in bore. From motorcycles to bicycles to ATVs the Arkon Mount tin can fit a wide range of vehicles. The mount comes with two prophylactic strips that tin exist used to help with a more solid fit and to preclude the Mount from scratching up the handlebars. The mount is fitted with a ball and socket connector that has a tension screw to let yous to fine tune the holder/instance'southward positioning.

Arkon Headphone slot/port

The holder or case itself is made of thick safety with a zipper that connects the front end with the dorsum halves. The attachment is business firm which helps keep wet away from your Windows Phone. The instance has a thick, clear plastic face. A pocket-sized cutout rests at the base of the case where headphone cords can sneak out.

On the back of the Arkon example is the mounting plate that slides on to the Mountain. A brass fix spiral is present to prevent the example from billowy off the mountain.

Arkon Handlebar mount backside

The back half of the Arkon case is padded and to aid add more padding (if necessary) the instance comes with 2 foam inserts that will slide behind your Windows Phone (if at that place's room).  The Arkon case is just big plenty to handle the HTC Titan. The Samsung Focus Due south fits nicely with room to spare and the Focus Wink is swallowed up by the instance.

Performance

As far as performance is concerned, the Arkon instance mounted easily with 2 screws on either end of the mount. The instance slides into identify with a snap and the set spiral is big plenty to put into place easily likewise.

The example stays in place nicely on a bicycle. You did have a scrap of bounciness merely not enough to give concern that your Windows Phone was about to bounce off the pavement. The plastic face is thick enough to protect your phone but thin enough to allow your screen to remain bear on sensitive. The screen is sensitive plenty for large push button taps (Zune histrion controls, slide to unlock, tap to launch, etc.) but typing tin can be frustrating.

It it possible to manipulate the buttons on your Windows Phone when it is snug in the case. The thick plastic does brand viewing the screen a little challenging. You lot can make out navigational maps and Caller ID but I don't know if I'd worry about reading any lengthy emails while the phone is in the instance.  Then again, you shouldn't be typing while riding a bicycle.

Arkon mounted to bicycle (can you tell it's pollen season?)

With regards to water resistance, the Arkon gets loftier marks. The attachment seal is tight enough to keep moisture out merely I wouldn't have the dual zippers meet at the acme. There is a minor, pin hole gap where these two zippers heads see that could permit some moisture in. Motion the meeting point to the side and your weather seal improves.

The headphone port is at the bottom and shouldn't exist an issue. Keep in mind the Arkon is water resistant, not water proof. It's not intended to be submerged only rather survive a rain shower while your out on your bike. While you could mountain the Arkon on a waverunner or personal watercraft I have my doubts that your Windows Phone would survive the first outing.

Overall Impression

All in all, the Arkon Handlebar Mount with Water Resistant Holder performed nicely. Information technology allows your Windows Phone to be functional and attainable while running around on your motorbike or bike. The thick plastic confront of the case does brand it challenging to view the screen but does help keep things dry.  If yous won't exist using your Windows Phone for navigation, a Bluetooth headset and a secure belt example might be a better pick.  But if you need to view your Windows Phone while on the open road, the Arkon should do alright.

The Arkon Handlebar Mount and Holder is currently running $18.95 and yous can find it here at the WPCentral Accessory Shop.
